The Tai Chi program at Han Mi Martial Arts is geared towards adult students who wish to focus on being peaceful and centered – on slowing down the pace of things and taking their time to learn deeply.
Strength and flexibility are developed, without rigorous movement, through slow and controlled movements that won’t injure joints. This makes it ideal for students who are older or have physical challenges. Attention is paid to the breath during forms study, and every class ends with a breathing meditation. Our Tai Chi program is structured with a specific curriculum, but does not feature ranks or belts. Students simply practice and learn.
What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi Chuan is a traditional Chinese martial art focused on what is often called the “inward” aspects of martial arts study. It roughly translates to mean “Grand Ultimate Fist” and is often taught in conjunction with Chi Gung or “breath/energy study.” While still a martial art, Tai Chi addresses the importance of being peaceful and centered mentally and physically. From that centered state, one can move intelligently through life without aggression. Of the 5 larger schools of Tai Chi, we use the popular Modified 24 Frame Yang style form and then adhere to the Chen style forms from there.
