Train the Sword, Train the Spirit
Often referred to as Japanese Fencing, Kendo – The Way of the Sword – uses sword techniques to train and condition the mind and body to deal with another person determined to attack.
Through training in Kendo, a student learns not just the physical elements of the sword, but also cultivates mental clarity, directness, sincerity, and intensity.
Mental and physical training
The recorded history of Kendo begins in the 8th century, with the Samurai sword training known as Kenjutsu. Safety equipment was developed in the 1700s to allow samurai to train with full power. This led to new training methods and the development of modern Kendo. In 1952, the All-Japan Kendo Federation was formed to disseminate Kendo as “a way to discipline the human character through the application of the principles of the Katana.”
